2 Days Tsavo East Safari — From $300 Per Person
The 2 Days Tsavo East Safari is Sun & Safari’s entry-level package: one full day and two half-days of game drives in Kenya’s largest national park, with full-board lodge accommodation and every park fee included. It is our most-booked short safari — and the natural prelude to a Kenya coast holiday, since Tsavo East sits under two hours from Mombasa.
The Concept
Why Book a Short Tsavo Safari?
This package exists for one specific traveller: someone who wants a genuine, unhurried safari without committing four or five days to it — because the rest of their week belongs to the beach. Tsavo East is the only major Kenyan reserve positioned to make that work. Its open plains concentrate game so effectively along the Galana River that even a single full day of driving reliably produces elephant, buffalo, giraffe, and — with good fortune — lion.
The park’s other advantage is pure geography: Tsavo East’s Bachuma Gate sits under two hours from Mombasa and Diani. That means this two-day safari slots directly onto the front of any coastal itinerary without a wasted transfer day — arrive in Kenya, spend a night among red-dusted elephants, then continue straight to the ocean already having ticked off the safari half of your trip.
At $300 per person, it is also the most accessible way to experience a Kenyan national park — ideal for travellers on a tighter budget, a stopover between longer trips, or anyone who simply wants to test whether safari life suits them before committing to a longer Mara or Amboseli itinerary.

Day by Day
The Full 2-Day Itinerary
Compact but unrushed — three separate game drives across two days.
Road Transfer & Afternoon Game Drive
Departure from Nairobi by private 4×4 in the morning, arriving at Tsavo East’s Voi or Manyani gate by early afternoon after a scenic drive across the Athi-Kapiti plains. Check in, lunch at the lodge, then head straight into an afternoon game drive along the Galana River as the light softens.
Dawn Drive & Departure
An early-morning game drive while the park is coolest and most active, chasing the elephant herds, buffalo, and predators that Tsavo’s dawn light brings out. Return to the lodge for a late breakfast, then transfer onward — to Nairobi, or directly to Mombasa and the coast in under two hours.

Make It More
Popular Ways to Extend This Safari
Most guests treat this as the opening chapter of a longer trip — here’s how it’s usually extended.
Add Tsavo West
A third day crossing into Tsavo West adds Mzima Springs’ underwater hippo-viewing chamber and the volcanic Shetani lava flows.
Add Amboseli First
Combine with our 3-Day Amboseli package for elephants beneath Kilimanjaro before descending overland into Tsavo — Kenya’s classic value safari circuit.
Continue to the Coast
Add three or four nights at Diani Beach for the complete bush & beach experience at a fraction of the cost of a Mara-based itinerary.
Common Questions
2-Day Tsavo Safari FAQ
What guests ask before booking this package.
Yes, more reliably than you might expect. Tsavo East’s dry-season water sources along the Galana River concentrate elephant, buffalo, and plains game so effectively that even a single afternoon and dawn drive typically deliver strong sightings. Lion and leopard are possible but not guaranteed in such a short window — for a higher chance of predator sightings, our Masai Mara packages are the better fit.
Yes — scheduled flights serve airstrips near Voi, and the Nairobi–Mombasa SGR train stops at Voi and Mtito Andei on Tsavo’s edge. The standard package uses road transfer because the drive itself, across the Athi-Kapiti plains, is part of the experience and keeps the price low; flying or the train can be quoted as an upgrade.
Choose Tsavo for the lowest price and the fastest route to the coast. Choose Amboseli for the Kilimanjaro backdrop and denser elephant herds. Many guests do both — Amboseli first, then overland into Tsavo on the way to Mombasa, which our consultants can combine into a single quote.
Yes — this is in fact the more common request. Because Tsavo East sits under two hours from Mombasa, many guests book this safari as the final two days of a coast holiday rather than the first two days from Nairobi. Tell your consultant your onward routing and the transfer direction is simply reversed.
